SearchPoint is about searching in a new way
When we search for something, we are very used to the following: We write a query and a search engine returns a sorted list of pages. Since this works pretty well, SearchPoint also offers this basic functionality. So what is new? Well we are of a firm belief that for one query many different rankings should be returned. For example if we query "jaguar", sometimes we are interested in wildlife cats, sometimes in sport cars and other times in operating systems. We provide our users with means to easily access all of this and much more.
How it all works
Additional to the usual search engine's pages result list, we provide some topics important to the current search. This additional topics are placed on a panel besides the result list.
On this panel, there is also a red focus point. We can drag it around or alternatively, we can click anywhere on the panel and the focus point is going to move there.
The closer this focus point is to one of the topics, the higher the results that talk about this topic are going be in the result list.
We can see the original position of a result by the number in front of it and we can press the R button to return to the original ranking.
Additional information
Main technologies of SearchPoint were developed on the Institute Jozeph Stefan (www.ijs.si) over several EU funded research projects (NEON, IMAGINATION, ACTIVE,...) and the development of comercial applications is transfered to a spin-out company Modro oko d.o.o..
The search improvement will be especially beneficial in the Enterprise and eCommerce Search scenarions. Currently development of plugins for SharePoint and Magento platforms are underway. Custom integration into a specific search engine is also possible.
